General outline -

  • You may store your waste on Farm for up to 12 months
  • You must not allow your waste to blow away and litter your holding (keep it together in one heap!)
  • You are responsible for ensuring that your waste is removed by an authorised company. A waste transfer note must be provided by that company and then kept on file for at least 2 years.

Agricultural Waste Regulations
line

The agricultural waste regulations affect whether or not you can burn, bury, store, use your waste on the farm or send it elsewhere.
They came into force on 15 May 2006, when you needed to stop using your farm tip/dump and burning plastics and other materials.
You also have to remember your Duty of Care when storing or passing your waste to someone else.

Farmers had until 15 May 2007 to comply with the new rules and to register for any agricultural waste exemptions. If you have not ordered or completed an exemption pack you can still get one by calling the Environment Agency dedicated agricultural waste helpline on 0845 6033113.

Waste can be stored on farm for a period of twelve months, but if you only have a small amount of polythene waste and you want it to go for recycling – you may store it on farm for up to three years.
